Week 1: Here We Go Mustangs!
Helllllllooooooo Mustangs! We are so excited to start practice on Tuesday! The practice schedule is always here. Swimmers should meet on the basketball court for their warm-up, then their coach will escort them into the pool for practice. Parents are always welcome at practice; we just ask that you gather near the adult pool and keep the main pool deck clear for coaches and swimmers.
If your swimmer is new and/or nervous, let us know and we’ll make sure to have our junior coaches give them some extra support and cheers this first week. And don’t hesitate to reach out with any feedback if practice feels too hard or too easy for your swimmer – we have such a wide range of paces at the beginning of the season, but if we know it’s too hard or too easy, our coaches can adjust the lane your swimmer is in to make sure they are swimming at a comfortable pace.
Team Managers Heidi and Lindsay are on the pool deck most mornings if you need anything!
Practice Make-Ups
We often have families ask if their swimmer can attend another age group practice as a make-up if they cannot make their assigned practice. Because our team is so full, we can’t allow extra swimmers in other practices. Instead, we encourage families to send their swimmer(s) to Dives & Turns practice at 11:30am.
What is Dives & Turns Practice?
We end every day with an optional dives and turns practice at 11:30. This is an informal practice where swimmers work exclusively on dives (from the side or the block) and turns (for 11 and up swimmers). Coaches take small groups of kids to work on each of these. All are welcome at this practice!
What To Bring To Practice
Please make sure your swimmer has:
Swimsuit & Towel
Goggles
Water
Everything labeled!
When practice is over, swimmers must leave the main pool deck to make room for the next group. They are welcome to (and often do) hang out in other parts of the pool or playground. Coaches are not responsible for kids after their practice, so just set expectations with your kiddos on good behavior if they choose to stay and hang with their friends.
Meet the Coaches!
Introducing the best coaching team around! All are returning coaches/swimmers...and we couldn't be happier to have this team on board!
Junior Coaches:
Anika Rintamaki
Lauren Weiss
Drew Christmann
Jack Hanahan
Jessica Heise
Ella Auman
Junior Coaches are our graduated seniors who volunteer their time while swimming one last season for the Mustangs. All of them have been on the team since they were little! You'll see them in the water with the kids during practice and cheering at the end of the pool during meets. Several of these coaches are available for swim lessons. Look for more information next week!
How To RSVP Your Swimmer For Meets
Now is an excellent time to make sure you can login to our website with the user ID and password you created. This becomes VERY important next week for declaring meet attendance and event preferences for your swimmers. For each swim meet, you must declare your swimmer’s attendance and list any preferences for events to swim. We cannot always accommodate all preferences, but we do look at them! Swimmers on ALL teams in our league are limited to three individual events and two relays. New swimmers may only start with a couple events as they are not legal in all strokes. As they improve, they will swim more events.
If you have any problems declaring for meets, reach out to Lindsay or Heidi! If you have to arrive late or leave early from a meet, please let us know when you declare so we don’t schedule you for an event.
Meet declaration and preferences are always due on Fridays at 5pm. Since our first meet is Wednesday, June 7, the first deadline for meet declaration is Friday, June 2 at 5pm. If you do not declare, your swimmer will not have any events. If you know your schedule for the whole season, it is totally fine to declare for more than one meet at a time.
Inclement Weather Policy
If rain or thunderstorms are in the forecast, check your email before sending kids to practice! We will swim in light rain, but not if there is lightning.
Pancake Breakfast and Team Shirt Pickup Friday
Finally, we always end our first week with a pancake breakfast after each practice. Chris Cakes will be on site flipping flapjacks – swimmers will eat right after their practice! We will also have all the team shirts in and ready to be distributed.
If you made it this far, thanks for hanging in there! We can’t wait to begin our 12th season on Tuesday. Let’s goooooooooooo Mustangs!
